Movie bloggers across the blogosphere are taking part in the new (and very cool) meme over at the Fandango Groovers blog, and of course, I had to join. It's simple...you name your favourite movie from each year starting with the year you were born. This is easy for me, as I haven't lived very long!
1995 - Toy Story
Perhaps the best animated series of all time started the year I was born. I am so thankful for this movie!
Runner up: Se7en
1996 - William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet
This film introduced me to Baz Luhrmann, one of my favourite directors. Some may find the visuals to be a bit much, but I love this movie.
1997 - Life is Beautiful
This movie is so funny, yet it is so sad. And it's a war movie, too. As the title suggests, it is indeed beautiful.
Runner up: Titanic
1998 - A Bug's Life
Fun fact: This was the first movie I remember seeing at the movies.
Runner up: Following
1999 - Fight Club
I think this would be most people's picks for 1999.
Runner Up: American Beauty
2000 - Memento
Christopher Nolan + backwards story-telling = My favourite movie of all time.
Runner Up: Requiem for a Dream
2001 - Moulin Rouge!
I love lavish movies. More so when they are made by Baz Luhrmann and Ewan McGregor is singing.
Runner Up: Shrek
2002 - 28 Days Later...
Probably the best apocalypse movie I've seen. Cheers Danny Boyle!
Runner Up: About a Boy
2003 - Kill Bill Vol. 1
Four words: I love Quentin Tarantino.
Runner Up: Love Actually
2004 - Mean Girls
This is probably the movie which I have seen the most. It just never gets old!
Runner Up: The Aviator
2005 - Brokeback Mountain
I haven't seen this film in five years, but I remember it being one of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen.
Runner Up: Batman Begins
2006 - The Devil Wears Prada
The clothes. The Streep. The funnies.
Runner Up: Little Miss Sunshine
2007 - Juno
"Oh, you think you're so special because you get to play Picture Pages up there? Well, my five year old daughter could do that and let me tell you, she's not the brightest bulb in the tanning bed. So why don't you go back to night school in Mantino and learn a real trade."
Runner Up: Waitress
2008 - The Dark Knight
The day that I saw this film was a day which I remember better than any other day.
Runner Up: Let the Right One In
2009 - Inglourious Basterds
Five chapters of pure amazingness.
Runner Up: An Education
2010 - Inception
The three times I saw this in cinemas were the best days of my life.
Runner Up: The Social Network
Awesome, awesome, awesome!
ReplyDeleteMy post is scheduled for a little bit later. We share quite a few favorites.
Very cool choices!
ReplyDeleteWe actually don't have any in common though, but I suppose we do have very different tastes...
Mine will be up soon.
Ha we have Dark Knight and Fight Club in common. Many of the films were in my runner-up list...like The Devil Wears Prada, Mean Girls and Juno.
ReplyDeleteAnd Moulin Rouge!!
ReplyDeleteWe agree on some, but all were good choices. Except I think The Dark Knight was highly overrated. Great post though!
ReplyDeleteGreat list, Stevee. We've got a few crossovers. Mine'll be up in a bit. You're lucky you only had to do half as many films cuz this is a tough list to compile.
ReplyDeleteLesya - You're awesome, awesome, awesome! And we do share a few favourites!
ReplyDeleteJack - We do have very different tastes, but that's always cool!
Nikhat - The Dark Knight and Fight Club are awesome! And Moulin Rouge is definitely awesome!
Matt - Cool! And The Dark Knight? Overrated? Never. I love that movie!
Kai - I checked out your one! Yeah, it was pretty easy for me, but I realized I need to watch more 90s movies!
Great list, especially the six that are on my own. Thanks for taking part, I think you may be our youngest participant by the way.
ReplyDeleteCompletely forgot about Romeo+Juliet when making my list. Not sure if it would make mine, but dangit, it was worth the consideration. Nice list.
ReplyDeleteWow you must be the youngest of our blogging clique! ;) Some great choices, absolutely loved Mean Girls and I should definitely re-watch Life is Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAndy - Wow, we do have quite a bit in common! This was such a fantastic idea, I had a lot of fun! I guess I had the easiest job...being the youngest.
ReplyDeleteRed - 1996 was one of my weak years...but I love this movie all the same! Thanks!
Castor - Woo! That's me, the youngest of us all! Mean Girls just never gets old! I just bought Life is Beautiful, so I shall be rewatching it again soon.
teehee, this is becoming a trend in the movie blog land that I now reside.....I had to choose 22 more films than you!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat fun though, got some cool films in.
Your list is great, we share a similar taste in films!!
Good Job
great list! love that you chose mean girls!
ReplyDeleteCustard - Damn, you would have had a lot of work to do! But it's cool to see you got through it!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Bluej - How could I not pick Mean Girls? I love that movie!
Brokeback over Batman Begins?!?! I'm shocked! Your Nolan rep is going to get ahead of you. I saw one list that had four Nolan films selected, including Following! ;)
ReplyDeleteSolid choices all 'round, Stevee. Only two I need to see yet (Bug's Life/Life is Beautiful).
I bet the list with Following was mine :)
ReplyDeleteAny list with Fight Club and Inglourious Basterds is cool with me. Nice choices!
ReplyDeleteWow, this post is the gift that just keeps on giving.
ReplyDeleteFletch - Trust me. I thought for a long time about adding Batman Begins in the 2005 one. But then I was thinking of movies that have sentimental value to me. For example, A Bug's Life was the first movie I saw in cinemas, the day I saw The Dark Knight was probably the best day of my life, the three times I saw Inception are probably the most fun I had at the movies...yeah. I won't bore you with the story about why Brokeback Mountain means a bit more to me than Batman Begins, but it does. I promise you, my Nolan love isn't slipping!!
You had some pretty good choices, too. I'm not being a very good blogger at the moment...I can't find the time to comment on everyone's posts. I shall catch up this weekend.
Lesya - Nolan love! *high five*
Eric - You're right. Thanks!
