Fright Night - I admit, I kinda find Anton Yelchin quite cute. Like, if I ever saw him I'd just run up and give him a huge hug, because he looks like the kind of guy that you would run up and hug. While Fright Night looks intriguing enough, I think I'm saving up all my love for Yelchin until I get to see Like Crazy, one of my most anticipated movies for the year. Of course, that doesn't come out here until February next year. So maybe, if I ever get the chance, I'll have to settle for this. Even though it's an R13...no-one ever gets given the R13 label anymore!
In Time - Okay, I admit to scouring the internet to find a still of Cillian Murphy in In Time because it has been far too long since I have had him on my blog. Cillian, I still love you dearly. It's been a while since I've seen a movie of yours. But I'm sorry, I probably won't be going to see In Time. You look like such a badass in that jacket though. It's just that with a 38% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this does not look promising. If it gets up to fresh territory, we have a date. Good? Good.
One Day - As much as I'd love to see Anne Hathaway's apparently terrible British accent and Lone Scherfig's latest after An Education, I have decided that romantic films really aren't my cup of tea. Because they're so far from my reality that it sucks. But I will see this, one day. Haha, see what I did there?
The Inbetweeners - Can somebody please enlighten me on what this whole thing is about? Because it's currently rated 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is quite a high score, if I'm not mistaken.
DVD Releases
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - It's thanks to this movie that I had to go without a proper Tuesday Movie Night. I'm sorry, pirates really don't interest me. I don't care if this one has Penelope Cruz in it.
Barney's Version - ...and thanks to whoever decided not to get this movie at Blockbuster (probably my father, the dunderheaded clodpole), I did not have a nice Tuesday Movie Night. Seriously, after seeing the trailer for this like 500 times (not even exaggerating) at work while I WAS ORDERING THE SHELVES THAT WERE SO NOT IN ORDER, I NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE. I mean, I nearly had a wee cry every time I saw the end. But no, I'll just wait for it to become available on Fatso, coz that's obviously the place that has the cool movies. //End of rant.
So, what do you think of these movies? Are you a pirates fan? A Cillian fan? An Anne Hathaway-with-a-bad-accent fan? A let's-go-hug-Anton-Yelchin-coz-he's-so-cute fan?
As usual, there is only one film that interests me here, and that is BARNEY'S VERSION.
ReplyDeleteThe Inbetweeners: "Four socially troubled 18-year-olds from the south of England go on holiday to Malia". OMG IT SOUNDS AWESOME! Not. How can this be rated 79% (80% audience) on RT?
ReplyDeleteI like Cillian, though I'm not crazy about him - his film doesn't look promising though. As for One Day, I was quite curious for it, especially because of Lone Scherfig, but the trailer looks la-la. I'll rather watch An Education instead.
We also have In Time coming out today and it's so strange that we actually share a release at the same time. I will go to see it tomorrow. I'm surprised that it is rotten-rated right now because it's from writer/director Andrew Niccol. I'm not the fan of his but this guy wrote The Truman Show and Gattaca; he seems so smart. Anyway, I guess it's all because of Justin Timberlake.
ReplyDeleteYou know I used to be a pirates fan but when I recall this fourth installment now... how terrible it was. We had the dvd come out earlier but I still didn't bother to get it. I can't believe that I gave it a 4 star rating. I just was trying to convince myself it was good. But meh.
For all the hate that The Inbetweeners seems to be getting, the show is actually awesome, one of my favourites in fact!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea why I haven't seen the film yet (well, money being the main reason I guess) especially when I have been a lover of all things Inbetweeners since day 1, but I am definitely going to watch it when it comes out on DVD.
I don't know how it'll fair outside the UK though, as it is very British-based humour.
Barney's Version is very disappointing and horribly boring. Pirates 4 is very average, the mermaid scene is the only one that's really good and Fright Night while entertaining is quite forgettable.

ReplyDeleteFright Night is another 1980's classic like Footlosse that should never have been re-made.
ReplyDeleteI saw this when I was 16 and even though not a genuinely scary horror it is a true classic. The 1980's to me where the best era for horrors even though most of them looked aged and dated now.
In Time looks intriguing after I saw the trailers last week. Will try and get along to see it.

Yeah, I'd rather watch An Education. That movie is one of my favourites.
Lesya - We usually get big blockbusters at the same time as everyone else, but other movies like Midnight in Paris or The Tree of Life take years to get here.
I often convince myself that some films are good. Don't worry about it!
Cherokee - I don't think The Inbetweeners has ever aired here, but I don't pay that much attention to the television so I wouldn't know.
It'll probably go quite well here, considering we're like a carbon copy of Britain over here!
Sati - Sad to hear you didn't like Barney's Version, but I'll still give it a go. It's a no to Pirates but a maybe to Fright Night.
Julian - So was I. I'll be watching it on DVD, though.
Brent - 80's classics shouldn't be remade simply because we don't live in the 80's anymore.
