What I'm watching tonight...
Yeah, just One for the Money. Since it is the only thing (besides The Walking Dead season two, which I really need to catch up on) out on DVD this week. It's a good thing that I only have this to watch tonight, since I have to practise my speech (I'm unbelievably stressed about this because besides writing, public speaking is my next best 'thing'), do a whole lot of other English work and finish off the writing for my Drama assessment. So yes, Katherine Heigl will be a welcome break. On the bright side, only a week until I can see Shame!
Video of the week...
I'm just gonna use this to plug all the fantastic videos that are going up for the LAMMYs this year. I'll be announcing Most Prolific - just gotta make sure my video works, first!
Links...
A whole lotta people have taken inspiration from me and have listed their own film facts. Here they are:
-Cinematic Corner
-"...let's be splendid about this..."
-Being Norma Jeane
-And So It Begins...
-Southern Vision
-Whoa, This Is Heavy!
-Ramble Film
Andy Buckle has just finished up at the Sydney Film Festival and he has this round-up of his fantastic coverage. Sounds like he had a (tiring) blast!
Mette reviews the brilliant Lost in Translation.
It seems that Anna was floored by the brilliant The Double Life of Veronique.
Reel Insight has a celebratory episode for their second anniversary. Awesome stuff!
Tyler, who was inspired by my sudden personal piece on Saturday night, writes about how he takes comfort in film and finds inspiration.
Diana reviews my beloved Schindler's List, and it seems she loved it *almost* as much as me (that's coz no-one can love it as much as me).
The Void checked out the severely underrated Another Earth.
Final word...
Most underrated film from last year?
Thanks so much Stevee. A blogger is pushed to the limit during a film festival, if they choose to cover it extensively. It was a lot of fun, but indeed tiring. Still got a few reviews coming that I had no time to write over the weekend. Hope it offers up a bit of a guide on what to look out for the remainder of the year. Some there's great stuff.
ReplyDeleteIt would be amazing to hear you call out my name for Prolific, because you have championed me so much. I cant thank you enough for that :-)
DeleteAlso, earlier: 'there's some great stuff' haha.
DeleteYou've done a great job - I'll definitely keep an eye out for any following reviews you have. And best of luck for the Prolific award, since I definitely wanted you to win. I think it should be up tonight.
DeleteThanks for the link :D You've started quite the trend.
ReplyDeleteUm, I really liked Submarine from last year. Apart from the story, I think it looked and sounded amazing.
It would appear so!
DeleteSubmarine was really cool. I really enjoyed that one.
Thanks for the linkage!
ReplyDeleteAnother Earth is SO UNDERRATED! Loved it! And you're right, no one could love Schindler's List as much as you (Diana's review was awesome sauce)
You're welcome :)
DeleteAnother Earth definitely is really underrated. I loved that movie!
Thanks for the linkage! Most underrated film from last year. Well, I could say The Turin Horse cuz that's my favourite film of last year, but I'll be different and say something else: the beautifully quiet and stunningly lovely Le Quattro Volte is my most underrated movie of 2011! Good luck with your speech btw.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. I think I remember hearing about Le Quattro Volte at the film fest (I think I keep confusing it with another film, though), but I haven't heard much since then. Thanks!
DeleteThanks for the link! I love your list and it's nice to see so many followed! I might do one myself, but I don't think I've seen enough films to qualify making lists like that! I do love reading them :)
ReplyDeleteYou so could, even if it is only 25 or 50. You'll be surprised at how much you can get through!
DeleteStevee, I hate to be the bearer of bad news. But, New Zealand has just passed a law that says the restricted age for films like "Shame" is now 18 years old. It takes effect tomorrow. They are also pushing for the age to limit to be 21 years old starting 2013. This means you'll have to go out the country if you want to see it any time soon. Of course I'm joking. Or am I? :p
ReplyDeleteBtw, I'm with Nikhat for most underrated film of last year.... Submarine!
Haha, it is actually an R18, which means that I can't watch it anyway. But I have a lovely older sister who will get it out for me (she won't even know what it is).
DeleteSubmarine was awesome!
Definetly gonna check out your LAMMY video and thank you for the link! For me the most underrated movies from last year is definetly heavily misunderstood Sleeping Beauty.
ReplyDeleteIt should be up tonight, and you're welcome! Sleeping Beauty comes out next month so I'll definitely check it out. It seemed to have had a very polarizing reaction from a lot of people.
DeleteThank you SO MUCH for your initial Film Facts list... I think people can lose sight of how lists like those begin, but we all have you to thank for it. And thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. I'm glad that a whole lot of people have taken the idea!
DeleteThanks for the linkage! I plan to do the film facts post next week, though I might have a problem coming up with a hundred or so facts. Still, sounds like an amusing challenge.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. And it is an amusing challenge!
DeleteCool links. The most underrated movie for me last year was Hanna, which was a stylish, fun action thriller that flew under the radar. I've heard some other bloggers rave about it, but that's about it. I also really liked the indie film Cold Weather, which didn't get much acclaim.
ReplyDeleteHanna did fly under the radar, surprisingly. I can't say I was the hugest fan of it but it definitely deserved more recognition than it got. And I've heard some good things about Cold Weather, so I'll try check it out in the future.
DeleteMost underrated movie from last year for me is Weekend. Great movie that I thought didn't get enough attention last year. Great screenplay and performances by Tom Cullen and Chris New.
ReplyDeleteWeekend is coming out on DVD next month so I'll definitely check it out. Sounds like a really good movie.
DeleteThanks for the linkage, Stevee. Appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteAs for most underrated film from last year, well, I didn't see enough films last year for me to answer that accurately. I'll hang my head in shame.
In fact, where do I hand in my cinephile license?
You're most welcome.
DeleteHaha, fair enough. We live in NZ, anyway. I can't write my top 10 of 2011 until the end of next month because I still haven't seen films like Martha Marcy May Marlene, The Skin I Live In, Shame etc etc etc.
Thanks for the link love but... why are you punishing yourself in watching another bad movie starring Katherine Heigl?
ReplyDeleteHaha, because it is unfortuantely the only thing out this week. And since our shop got 12 copies of it and only one copy of The Artist, I thought I better check it out :(
DeleteOh boy, I don't think I can watch another Katherine Heigl movie. Hope you enjoy it Stevee, hey there's cutie Jason O'Mara in this as eye candy :D
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely gonna join in on the '100 film facts' post, just trying to find the time to do it. You've created something awesome Stevee, let's hope we get more people to take part!
It was better than her other stuff...but that ain't saying much.
DeleteCan't wait to see what you come up with!
I hope your speech goes well!! One for the Money is a film I am trying to avoid!
ReplyDeleteIt went really well, thanks! And yes, keep avoiding it.
