This week's nowhere near as huge as next week, but I'm LOVING July so far. I checked out Higher Ground last night, My Week with Marilyn this afternoon and I have This Means War, Sleeping Beauty and my most anticipated We Need to Talk About Kevin to keep me warm on this freezing Tuesday. I love you, holidays.
Video of the week...
I'm pretty excited about pay-day tomorrow so I can buy The Artist's score and Shame's soundtrack. This piece is particularly incredible. I won't be getting over Shame any time soon, that's for sure.
Blog of the month...
As you may have noticed, every month I change my sidebar around and highlight one blog for 30-31 days. This month's highlighted blog is FRONT ROOM CINEMA. Now, Scott Lawlor, the man behind it all, is someone we could all learn from. He's such a kind guy, and actually dedicates a lot of time to sharing the love around the blogosphere. Plus, he and his team have created one rockin' site! I dare you to deny the fact that he has grown the most out of any other blog in such a short amount of time.
Links...
Archery is pretty darn popular in the movies these days, aren't they? Brittani shares her list of bad ass movie archers.
Reel Insight has another ep up, this time focusing on Michael Fassbender. Because the Fassbender is pretty much the awesomest actor alive.
Lesya recently held a 'Paris in Genres' blogathon, and there were some great recommendations across the board.
Anna celebrates her 1000th post with 100 film facts about her.
Alex shares ten great movies that he never wants to see again. I second the Tyrannosaur notion.
Sati finishes up her 20 favourite TV characters. Ah, why don't I watch more TV? (I'm starting Game of Thrones next week, though)
It seems that Tyler loved Hunger just as much as I did.
Ruth gives us a bit of an insight into her recent sound gig. Such a lovely read.
Final word...
Favourite film location?
Thanks for the linkage. Looks like you have some interesting viewing selections. July looks to be a good month.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite film location? Hmmm... I might go with the dreamlike hotel and its outdoor garden in the French New Wave classic Last Year at Marienbad. The whole place is so beautifully shot that it gives me the creeps. Would love to visit the set of where that movie was shot, though I doubt it's there anymore.
July is a really good month - well for me, anyway. There are at least three films per week that I want to see, which is a bit of a rarity!
DeleteAh, I'll have to check out Last Year at Marienbad in the future. Sounds interesting!
Thank you, Stevee :) I hope you love We Need To Talk About Kevin - it'd be in my top ten for 2011.
ReplyDeleteFavourite film location...hmm...always a fan of films set in space/star ships! But real world locations, I'd have to give it to the bush. For example, while The Hunter wasn't an excellent film, the locations in the forests of Tasmania were spectacular!
I did love We Need to Talk About Kevin...I just need to watch it when there isn't an earthquake!
DeleteThe scenery in The Hunter was pretty darn spectacular. I really liked the way that film looked!
NEW YORK!!!! Need I say anymore?
ReplyDeleteOh my oh my!! Thanks so much for the feature Stevee. You are too kind to feature lil ol FRC on here. I am completely stoked, and jumping around the office!!
Your Mate
S
New York is the best!
DeleteI'm glad that you're pretty excited about it! You're welcome.
Impressive list of films! My Week with Marilyn is kind of average, but for me it was such a great movie, so warm and lovely, yet a bit sad. I can't wait for your review (or just thoughts) of We Need to Talk about Kevin! I love this film and I have a feeling that you will too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link. Very kind of you!
Favorite film location... I can't choose just one. Obviously, New York. Paris. Surprisingly Los Angeles -- I love films set in the city where movies are made. And I love good fantasy and sci-fi, so some inexisting places.
My Week with Marilyn was pretty average, but I have a weakness for 'behind-the-scenes' dramas. And We Need to Talk About Kevin was great!
DeleteI love LA set films too!
Hey, thanks for linking me! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!
DeleteThanks for the linkage! (You missed a zero on the post count, BTW.)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite film location...either New York City (Sweet Smell of Success, Manhattan) or San Francisco (Vertigo, Zodiac). Basically a city I want to live in.
Woopsie daisy, I'm getting really bad with typos these days!
DeleteThey're two great cities to see on film.
Thanks so much for the link Stevee!
ReplyDeleteFave film location: hmmm, how about the basement of Maynard's shop in Pulp Fiction. Not necessarily my favorite, but probably the most puzzlingly terrifying one I can think of haha.
You're welcome!
DeleteHaha, that's an interesting choice. Definitely puzzlingly terrifying!
Thank you Stevee! Woah, that is quite a lot of fine movies you will be seeing. Fav film location? New Englad. Love all of it.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. And yes, there are! New England is a great film location.
DeleteI really wish I lived there - those houses painted blue with red roofs and the cold breeze...though I'm luacky enough to be 10 minutes away from the beach so I can experience this a lot. Really love this whenever New England setting are in the movie, they just infuse the image with so much fresh air.
DeleteI know, it always looks so beautiful there!
DeleteFavorite film location... Tokyo. No questions asked.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely check out We Need to Talk About Kevin though I think Morvern Callar is the best place to start with it if you're interested in the works of Lynne Ramsay.
I'm probably going to Japan at the beginning of next year, which is pretty exciting!
DeleteI'm definitely interested in Lynne Ramsay's work now, so I'll check out that one as soon as possible.
I'm listening to a bit of that track now. You may have sold the track to me. You should be taking a cut of their profits with your sales skills.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I saw that you were listening to it on your way to work on the train!
DeleteFRC is awesome!! :D
ReplyDeleteOh, that's a cool idea for a list about archery. Off I go to check that out. Great set of links here, Stevee!
Front Room Cinema is really cool!
DeleteAnd I'm surprised that no-one has thought of an archery list yet. So many archers out there!
4 very different films, but I think you will enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteI have loved that Shame soundtrack track ever since I first heard it in the trailer-it's brilliant!
Favorite film location- New York! you can't find a more vibrant, colorful city!
Shame's soundtrack is beyond brilliant!
DeleteNew York seems to be very popular - I'd love to go there one day.
