So I was supposed to be watching The Grey, Total Recall and Step Up 4 tonight, but unfortunately something happened to our orders and we're not getting any of the DVDs until tomorrow. So hopefully I can catch up on the two biggies, The Grey and Total Recall tomorrow. In the meantime, I'll probably catch up on Weekend, which I just got from Fatso. I've been looking forward to seeing this film for ages.
Video of the week...
These 'honest trailers' always make me LOL. Especially if they're about anything Twilight related.
Blog of the Month...
My last featured blog of 2012 will be Sati's fantastically beautiful blog Cinematic Corner. Sati knows her way around Photoshop, and I won't lie that she's influenced some of the design work on this blog. Plus, she's awesome - she loves Lana Del Rey, The Dark Knight Rises and Downton Abbey. So much win. You could probably spend hours on her blog. I know I do!
Blogathon...
So I thought I might do my first attempt at a real blogathon, but since I'm not a person who likes waiting, I'm given you little over a week's notice. Basically, the idea of the blogathon is to tie in with the awards season hoopla. The subject is Making a Case for Movies that Probably Won't Get Any Awards Recognition this year. Basically, just think of the movies that won't figure highly in awards season, but you think they should. Maybe you want The Dark Knight Rises or Skyfall to get Best Picture. Or maybe you want to look at some performances, like maybe Matthew McConaughey in Killer Joe or Emily Blunt in Looper. You could even look at editing/cinematography/music alone. If you're doing a film, you're not limited to one category to look at. Think creatively, but it honestly doesn't matter if you pick the same as someone else (if it makes any difference, I'll obviously be making the case for The Dark Knight Rises). Here's what you need to know:
-Post any time between now and the 12th December (for most of you, if you live anywhere close to me, 13th December is when I'll post everyone's links). I will accept late entries for a couple of days afterwards. The reason why I want it to be next week is that I want it to happen before the Golden Globes, and by then we'll have a good idea of who will be big in awards season, therefore making the case won't seem so special.
-Title your post as "Making the Case for __________" You can use any imaging you want.
-I'd prefer only one case to be made, but if you want to make a whole list, that's cool with me.
-Send your entries into my email, which is filmjunkie25[@]hotmail.com (remove brackets). If you're unsure of the cut-off, I'll put a note out on Twitter when we're getting close to it.
So be creative and good luck!

A little while ago I recorded the Ultimate Last LAMB Standing on the LAMBCast. I got up at 6am for this thing, so you all better listen to it.

This is probably the first time a blogger has made me tear up but Anna did it, when she shared her experiences of meeting JESSICA CHASTAIN AND DAN STEVENS, a.k.a two of my favouritest people in the world.
Josh shares his top ten favourite female performances, and it is pretty hard to argue with some of his choices.
Nikhat appreciates this year's coolest posters, and most of my favourites are on that list.
Nick recently celebrated his fifth birthday on his blog, but it comes with a sad announcement. Alas, go and wish him well!
Alex shares ten actors who deserve more work. I find it hard to disagree with any of his choices.
James has pretty much the same opinion of The Deep Blue Sea as I do. Still, it was nice to see Rachel Weisz getting the NYFCC award for her work.
Final word:
Who/what are you thinking you might do your 'case' post on for the blogathon?
Great idea for Blogathon. I will for sure make my case this week. :)
ReplyDeleteYay, can't wait!
DeleteAwesome idea for a blogathon, can't wait to take part!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks so much for the link, glad you dug my choices!
Yay, I can't wait to see what you come up with!
DeleteThanks for the link :)
ReplyDeleteWeekend is lovely, I hope you like it (I think you will).
I wish you had done this blogathon last year. All my feels towards Harry Potter and awards would have finally gotten an avenue. Nonetheless, I have a similar idea in my mind for this year, though it would be for an award other than the Oscars.
Oh I kind of want to lobby for everything and everyone in Perks of Being a Wallflower even though I haven't seen it.
DeleteWeekend was fantastic.
DeleteI should have done it last year, but I probably would have ended up being too angry. I want to lobby for The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Shame I haven't seen it, haha.
Oh, you're never going to forgive me, are you? (I appreciate the linkage though.)
ReplyDeleteThe blogathon sounds like a clever idea. I doubt I'll participate, but I am looking forward to everyone else's posts.
Nope, never.
DeleteCome on, you must participate! Mainly because you've seen a lot from this year.
Oh, all right, if you insist.
DeleteI like your blogathon. I am in! I even know the performance I want to highlight. I will try to get it done before 12th. Good Job Stevee, giving us an off day from thinking What to write? :D
ReplyDeleteYay! Always happy to inspire.
DeleteLooking forward to reading what you thought about Weekend after you see it. It's #4 on my top 10 movies of last year :)
ReplyDeleteI will be writing a review some time this weekend. It was wonderful!
DeleteThanks so much for featuring my blog and the kind words Stevee! I'm truly honored.
ReplyDeleteLovely idea for a blogathon, I'm looking forward to reading people's posts, maybe it will give me a little push to check out some great films I might have missed. I'd love to do a post about Zimmer's TDKR score, it's so amazing and people seem to hate it for some weird reason. I'll try to do a post this weekend.
You're welcome!
DeleteI love Zimmer's TDKR score to pieces! I look forward to your post.
I enjoyed the Twilight video. Thanks for the laugh. :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL, those honest trailers are a laugh. Apart from the TDKR one, that was kinda lame (not just because I love the film)
DeleteThanks for the link! :)
ReplyDeleteThis blogathon sounds awesome! Can't wait to participate! I'll probably make my case for Cloud Atlas, since Holy Motors (my current 2012 fav) will get some critics awards at least. But will Cloud Atlas get a Best Picture nomination? No way.
And good luck with Total Recall. Worst of the year for me.
You're welcome!
DeleteYay! I would really like to see Cloud Atlas, even though I'm having a little bit of trouble reading the book. Can't wait for your post!
Total Recall was pretty bad.
Count me in for the blogathon!
ReplyDeleteYay! Can't wait to see your post.

Hmm it seems like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so
ReplyDeleteI guess I'll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I'm thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I'm still new to everything. Do you have any recommendations for inexperienced blog writers? I'd genuinely appreciate it.
